Chinese Proverbs to make You Think

A hundred men may make an encampment, but it takes a woman to make a home.

Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think.

Love your neighbors, but don't pull down the fence.

Those who do not read are no better off than those who cannot.

Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

The wise adapt themselves to circumstances, as water moulds itself to the pitcher.

A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows the public opinion.

If you want 1 year of prosperity, grow grain.
If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees.
If you want 100 years of prosperity, grow people.

Be not afraid of going slowly, be afraid only of standing still.

Deal with the faults of others as gently as with your own.

If you want happiness for an hour--take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day-- go fishing.
If you want happiness for a month--get married.
If you want happiness for a year--inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime--help someone else.

Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead.

Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends whom we choose.

Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.

If you are patient in a moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow.

If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house, there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.

  7. Loved every one of the proverbs! A couple of Chinese proverbs that I have heard is 'The people are happy when the king is far' and 'A man who moves mountains begins by moving small stones'.
