Christmas Open House

I HAVE ALL THE SHOPS FOR THE "CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE"!!
Stay tuned for a list of the shops and ways to gain early entries to the give aways!!
It's going to be a good one!

Here is what I would like to do:

From November 15-30 I will be having a Christmas Promotion in my Etsy shop. It would be nice if another 9 shops would like to join me. An event button will be made, and I will promote from now until the end of November.

I would also like to include a Give Away. Each shop would offer one item as a Give Away prize. in order for people to enter to win, they would have to visit each shop and come back to the blog with a link to their favorite item. Everyone would be able to gain extra entries by posting on twitter, facebook, their own blog, or by making a purchase in one of the shops.

One the 22nd I will post all the shops in the event on my blog along with a 1x5 Etsy Mini, plus a short writeup on what each shops promotion in-tales along with the giveaway prize from each shop.

There are only a few rules to be part of the "Christmas Craft Show":

1) Have a promotion in your shop from Nov 15-30, that is stated in your shop announcement.
2) Be willing to donate a prize to the Give Away
3) Post the event button on your blog, if you have one.

Is anyone interested? Please email me, I will take the first 9 shops that contact me.

Thank you.

My First Ornament in the Swap!

I received my first ornament from the Ornament/Decorations Swap!! Isnt' it beautiful? And red is my favorite color too!

Julie Ellen is a wonderful shop on Etsy! Julie has amazing cross stitch ornaments, that can be personalized. Who doesn't love a handmade Christmas Ornament with your initial or name on it? Great gifts for that person that's tough to buy for.

I'm swapping ornaments with 4 people, I think we might be putting the tree up early this year :) Just won't mention that to the men! LOL I was going to post a picture of the ornaments I'm sending, but I think I'll wait till they all get them.

It's been so much fun swapping this year. If you remember, I mentioned that I was also part of the Shop Swap & Blog. Still waiting for those items to arrive, but I can show you what I shipped to three different people. This was divided between the three. There is one other item that I just finished (it's drying), so it didn't make the picture. I'm thinking of painting some clipboards. What do you think?

Hope Everyone has an awesome Friday!!!

B.A. Kid Again

B.A. Kid Again is a shop with Glow in the Dark Ornaments!! These would look so cool on a tree, though Carla has many that could be hung around the house all year. There are many many different ones to choose from, so please check out her shop!

How did you come up with the name of your shop?
I bought the business and the name from a friend that was retiring and going out of business. I love the name so she said I could keep it since she was done with it.

Tell us about your workspace.
I have a few pictures on my website www.BAKidagain.com . I have an 8 foot by 40 foot storage area that used to be a soap lab but is now storage. There are storage drawers for cut fabrics in my dining room, fabric totes that are uncut in my living room, my office desk has unfinished projects and a vinyl plotter on it so I can make my own signs and banners. There are other
supplies in my bedroom and closet as well.

Where do you create or work?
I am blessed in the fact that I can take my fabrics with me just about
anywhere I go and cut them out. (There are times when I will help out friends at our local flea market and you'll find me there watching their booth and cutting out fabric. I also have a travel bag that stays in my car just because, lol.) To sit down and make the ornaments themselves I sit on the sofa or at the computer desk.

Do you have your own space or has it
taken over the entire house?
It has moved into almost every room in the house. (Only rooms not affected are the kids 2 bedrooms, bathroom, and the laundry room.)

Where do you get inspiration from?
Take me to the nearest fabric store and turn me loose. If it's a new place that I've not been to before, be prepared to be there for a few hours, l

Do you have a favorite item that you have made?
I love making personal photo ornaments for people because I know they will be treasured for years.

What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
Did ya see where I said I use fabrics? I have over 1,200 yards of fabrics and still want more. I have a few friends that give me their scraps that they can't use as well.

Have you made anything that you just can't bear to part with?
I have a few ornaments that I will not sell. One in particular I spent over 3 hours making and gave it to a friend that has it in the center of her collection. It was of Cinderella and her coach pulled by horses made in a 4 inch ornament because a friend told me there was no way I could get THAT to work, lol.

Wish List Wednesday!

Doing these wish lists is making me "wish" I could win the Lottery. Of course I'd have to buy a ticket first :) It has been fun looking at all the amazing shops! Here are the next nine items on my list of "would love to have"! I found all the shops on The Handmade Highway. Please check out each shop, and have fun!

My Beautiful New Wallet!

For a while now I have been eying some handmade wallets on Etsy. The one I have still works, but it was time to get a new one. I have no idea how I found Miss Baah but I'm glad I did! Red is my favorite color, and I sorta had my heart set on a red wallet. Miss Baah didn't have one in her shop but she said she would gladly make one for me! So I picked the fabric from items she had listed and she made me this amazing wallet.

I just LOVE it! Can't wait to put all my stuff in it. I remembered to take some pictures before I filled it. LOL Here are some other items from her shop. Please check it out!

Handmade Knits for Everyone

HalPal has wonderful hand knit items for everyone! Hallie is from Chicago and has had her shop on Etsy since December 2008. She carries hats (adult and kids), scarflettes, head bands and more. Hallie uses the most wonderful colors for her items. She let me pick my favorites to add to the feature. I love these colors! Please check out the rest of Hallie's shop.

How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Halpal has always been a nickname of mine, and I used it to create my account as a buyer on etsy, long ago. I didn’t know I would someday become a seller, so it wasn’t really intentional that my shop would go by that name! I started my business because I was having such a hard time finding a full-time job after I graduated from college. I had all this free time, and no money, so I put two and two together and started selling what I was making in my free time.

When did you start knitting? Who taught you?
I started knitting in college—some girls in my sorority taught me how. I’m the only one who still knits, though!

Where do you knit? What would you love to add to your space?
I knit at home, usually on my couch. I would love some big baskets with lots of compartments to get more organized.

What does your crafting space look like?
My crafting space is in my living room, and everything is tucked away in chests and benches that open up, so when it’s clean, you can’t see anything at all!

Do you have a day job?
I have too many day jobs. I work at a non-profit film organization, I do marketing at a consulting firm, I help my sister run a gift bag business, and I write about film, occasionally. I have no idea how I get anything done!

What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
I go through taupe yarn like crazy! It is the base color in a lot of my work, so if taupe is on sale, I am stocking up. I also can't pass up great buttons at a thrift store.

What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
I loved making the sachets in my shop! I had an image in my mind before I made them, and they turned out just like I planned! (top picture)

Inspirational Sunday: The Cab Ride

I received this in an email. It's a wonderful story, and a great reminder that what we do may effect someone in ways we don't even know.
Have a wonderful Sunday!!

The Cab Ride

So I walked to the door and knocked. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie.

By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.

'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.

She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated'.

'Oh, you're such a good boy', she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address, and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?'

'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly.

'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice'.

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued. 'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.

'What route would you like me to take?' I asked.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a
girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said,
'I'm tired. Let's go now'

We drove in silence to the address she had given me.It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico...

Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?' she asked, reaching into her purse.

'Nothing,' I said

'You have to make a living,' she answered.

'There are other passengers,' I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly.

'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said.

'Thank you.'

I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.

I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift?

What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID,
~BUT~THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.

The Craft & Gift Shop

Ok - Here are the pictures from our store. The lighting isn't the greatest, but the pictures aren't to bad. Also remember we aren't a retail store, more like a semi-permanent craft show/sale. The banner was purchased at Vista Print. It turned out really well. We actually sold just over $300 the first 4 days which is big considering we are in a small community. The B&B products and candles are new for us this year. If you happen to see something you would like a closer look at - just let me know! I'll have to take more pictures after we have decorated for Christmas.

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!! No school here today - so it's a long weekend for me!! WOOHOO!

Blockhead Production

Blockhead Production is an AMAZING wood shop!! I absolutely LOVE all things wood, and was so happy when Paul agreed to a feature. Paul's shop is on Etsy, he opened it in September 2008 and he lives in Tacoma, Washington. This is just a really wonderful shop, please check it out!!

How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
I had this vision of a little wood turner hold crossed tool and his head was a block of wood. My wife and daughter would say it is because I'm a Blockhead at time.
I started this business because my wife and daughter said I should, I needed a venue to showcase my turnings.

When did you start working with wood? Who taught you?
I started as a Cub Scout making the Pinewood Derby Car. My Father was a Master Carpenter and gave me the direction I needed. I followed Father into the Construction Business when I was out of School. I really like to think he would be very proud of the work I do, unfortunately he is no longer with us and never got a chance to see my Turnings OR of the Furniture I have built.

Where do you have your tools? Do you have a picture? If not, what does the space look like?
I actually have a shop just down the street from out Apartment and spend most weekends there working on Bowls and whatnot. No I don't have a picture of my space, it is a total mess. My wife says she will take one when I get it cleaned up. The space is a 12x30 Storage place I rent and works well for me.

What would you love to add to your working space?
A larger lathe but that is out of the question right now...way too much money. One day, at least I can dream of that day.

Do you have a day job?
Oh Lord yes, still have to pay the bills. I work for a High End Kitchen Remodel Company doing these Fantastic kitchens and bathrooms you see in the Magazines. A lot of the wood I use in my Segmented Bowls come from rejected doors and draw fronts, so reclaimed wood is used in a lot of these items featured in my shop..

Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
I think my favorite right now is the Diamond Pattern Bowl my wife put in her blog. This bowl was a real challenge to get it all to fit the way I wanted it too. My wife will be adding this bowl as well as some other piece to my shop this week.

Peitite Knot Creations Snappy Nappy Give Away

AND THE WINNER IS:

STEPHANIE
CONGRATULATIONS!!

If you are having a baby, or know someone who is
La Petite Krott Creations is the shop for you!! Suzanne has the cutest diapers, hand knit soakers/covers, baby wipes, booties and more! She is a member of the Etsy Cloth Diapers team and the Natural Kids team. Suzanne is from Nova Scotia Canada and has a wonderful BLOG. She is offering a wonderful prize from her shop - but first we need to find out more about Suzanne!

How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Many people ask me "What does Petite Krott actually mean??". Well, it is a French Acadian affectionate term we say all the time (Petite crotte), which when directly translated into English means "Little Turd". It really is an affectionate term that could be synonymous with "Little cutie" or "Little sweetheart". My father would always refer to my daughter as "une petite crotte", and so was born La Petite Krott Creations because everything I do is for her!
I started making cloth diapers before my daughter was born, but I only started making them to sell almost one year ago. Cloth diapering has grown a lot since my daughter was born more than 3 years ago. I had a hard time finding them in my area, so I made my own. I want other mommies out there to be able to have the option to use cloth, and at reasonable prices.

When did you start crafting/sewing?
I have been sewing and knitting since I was a child. My grandmother taught me to knit when she'd come over to babysit or visit us. I have many great memories of that time together. I remember making my own Barbie clothes and furniture as well, all sewn by hand. One creation was a sofa framed with wood. I sewed some cushions for it and in the end it actually became a sofa bed that could be folded up or opened up for Barbie and her friends.
I learned to crochet much later, about 8 years ago. I also enjoy scrapbooking, which I am just starting to get into.

Where do you craft/sew? What would you love to add to your space?
I craft in my home. I have a sewing space in the spare bedroom where I sew up my diapers, and I usually knit and crochet while watching TV. I would love to have a brand new sewing machine. The one I currently use was my mother's and is about as old as I am! I would also love to have a space just for myself, that I don't have to share.

Do you have a day job?
I am a biology lab instructor at a local university. I was off for the summer, but will be starting up again soon. Crafting is only a hobby right now for me.

What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
The Ribbie is one of my favorite items to make. I designed the pattern myself, and it turned out really great! I was really impressed with myself. I love to knit in general though, I find it very relaxing. I love choosing coordinating colours, and I love to create custom woolies. Customers have some great ideas when it comes to coordinating colours and styles.

NOW FOR THE GIVE AWAY!
Suzanne is giving one lucky person their choice of Snappy Nappy!! There are so many cute fabrics to choose from. She has pictures of fabric choices HERE.

Hooks of Hope

Hooks of Hope is a wonderful crochet shop on Etsy. This shop is a Mother/Daughter shop! Kati and her mom Lynda have had their shop on Etsy since May! Kati lives in Mt. Pleaseant MI, and Lynda is in Norton Shores MI. They have a wonderful BLOG that is updated on a regular basis.

How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Our shop is called Hooks of Hope because when you purchase a “hook” (what we like to call our crocheted creations) from us you are not only buying yourself something beautiful, you are giving a portion of what you pay to charity. When we developed our shop , giving back was something very important to us. We want our talents to be used for so much more than just making a profit. Hopefully, in this small way we can do just that. Currently, we are contributing 15% of each item’s purchase price to the nonprofit organization, Postpartum Support International. Each year we will focus on a different charity; however, this year (our first year as a shop!) we chose Postpartum Support International because it is a cause near and dear to our hearts. I suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of my first son and it was awful! It is our hope that by giving even just a small amount we will be making a difference in the lives of others going through the same or similar situations.

When did you start "hooking"?
Mom started “hooking” about 25 years ago but didn’t get serious about it until about 10 years later. As for me, I began crocheting as a little girl and then became addicted to it during my first pregnancy. My boys have the blankets to prove it! :)

Where do you crochet? What would you love to add to your crafting space?
Mom and I both crochet primarily in our own living rooms, however, crocheting is a pretty portable craft that you can do just about anywhere! Both of us have been found crocheting in our vehicles on long (and short!) trips and when watching movies that aren’t that interesting. At my house we are currently renovating our home office and I would LOVE to designate a little section of that to become my “Hooks of Hope” workshop. It still has a ways to go.

What or who inspires you?
Our inspiration comes from a wide variety of sources! Actually, it is amazing how many things can inspire you once you begin looking! Our biggest inspirations of late have probably been nature, the change of seasons, my boys, my boys clothes, and local fairs and events that we have attended. For example, our family vacation inspired the Beach Bum Handy Hooks Mini Deluxe Collection and mom was inspired by the changing seasons when she developed the Pumpkin Pie Handy Hooks Mini Deluxe Collection.

Do you have a day job?
Besides being the ladies behind the hooks, mom and I both have a lot going on in our lives. Mom has been a stay-at-home mom/homemaker for the past 25 years and volunteers much of her time at church and as a paraprofessional. I too am primarily a stay-at-home mom/homemaker and have been for the last 2 ½ years. My two little boys, Eli (2 ½) and Ben (11 months), keep me very busy, but I love every second of it. I am also a grad student at Central Michigan University where I am getting my MS in Nutrition and Dietetics. On September 8th I actually begin my dietetic internship there and, in 8 months, will officially be ready to take the exam that will make me a Registered Dietitian. Yay!

What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
Mom enjoys making the Tagalong Hooks (our purses) the most. In fact, she makes all of the purses! That is not my gift! :) I enjoy making everything else you find in our shop; however, my favorite probably has to be the Handy Hooks Collections (our wash clothes coming in sets of 3 and 5). These are so much fun because color choices are endless, they are functional in a wide variety of situations, and they are so much fun to name!

Weekend Wonders!!

I know it's not the weekend yet technically. But to me Friday is the beginning of the weekend! This week has been insane!!! Friends and I opened our annual "Craft & Gift Shop" on Wed. so I've been busy there making sure everything is running smoothly. Hopefully I will have a post with pictures next week.

**Today I am going to start working on pairing everyone for the Christmas Ornament/Decoration Swap! When I started the swap I was hoping for a good turnout, I think it will be great - 94 people have joined the swap!! Hopefully I will have everyone paired and emailed by the end of Sunday!

The Etsy Mini's on the sidebars are all new! Again the shops are featuring mostly fall items, there are some amazing shops here. Please take time to check them out!! If you have a shop that will be full of winter/christmas items - let me know. I'm looking for Etsy mini's for November!

Ok - I promise that this will be the last time I post a Give Away I have won. But I absolutely LOVE this one and was thrilled that I won. This quilted wall hanging comes from The Quilted House an amazing shop on Etsy. Michelle has the most amazing hot pads, bags (you know I love bags!!), quilted bookmarks, mini totes (just too cute!), placemats, coasters and quilted cards. She sent me one of the cards too - it's wonderful!! The quilt I received is beautiful! The quality of her work is simply amazing. There just aren't enough words to describe how beautiful it is, and the picture just doesn't do it justice. I bought what I need to make a hanger and this will be on my wall year round!! Michelle also has a wonderful blog I love to visit: While the Cat's Away. Please check it out too!

Now for some blogs I found that you just have to see:

Stylish Stems also has a beautiful shop with amazing wreaths. I would like one for each season from this shop - but I need to sell some of my own things and make some money first. (hint hint LOL) They have announced on their blog about a Sale they are having - 30% off till Oct. 18th!!

Photobucket

You know I love bags!! Found this amazing blog, with a bag give away! (the blog is great too! )

Here is a great new blog, again with an awesome give away!! You really do need to check out her jewelry shop too. AMAZING!!

That's it for now!! Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!!
