Temple made from Beer Bottles

Sometimes Luke finds the weirdest things on the internet. Who would think of making a temple out of beer bottles?

Fifty years ago the Heineken Beer company looked at reshaping its beer bottle to be useful as a building block. It never happened, so Buddhist monks from Thailand's Sisaket province took matters into their own hands and collected a million bottles to build the Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple. It puts every other bottle building we have shown to shame. Even the washrooms and the crematorium are built of bottles, a mix of green Heineken and brown local Chang beer.

How cool is that! Talk about recycling :)

A Great Christmas

We had a very relaxing Christmas, the perfect kind :) Christmas eve we had a friend of Brad's (from work) over for turkey dinner. His family is all about 1500 miles away and would have been spending Christmas alone - that's no fun, do we invited him over. Had a great time :)
Christmas morning we woke the boys at 7am for breakfast. They have been getting into the habit of sleeping until lunch time. Brad couldn't wait that long to unwrap presents :) As you can tell the boys are not very awake -

For Christmas I got the red mittens from Brad (and a dish washer). I've wanted the mittens for over a year now, they have been impossible to find. The room sprays are from Logan and the kitchen utensils are from Luke.

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas. Only a few more days until 2011! Still need to come up with my "word of the year".

Merry Christmas!

I'm going to take the next few days off to Celebrate Christmas with Family and Friends.  My wish for everyone is that you have a Safe, Relaxing and Merry Christmas!

Joy to the World

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!

Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,

Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Rice Krispie Balls and Painted Ornaments

Every year I make goody for the students on my school bus. Usually I will try to make a treat or two, not just buy them on sale at Halloween :) I happened to be watching a Canadian cooking show - the woman is annoying - WAAAAAAAY to perky for me, but she has good recipes. Saw her making these Rice Krispie balls and thought they would be great for the kids. So this was the project for Sunday. The ones with red sprinkles where dipped in white chocolate. The other ones were first dipped in milk chocolate. Each student received on of each - that's 120 rice krispie balls!!

I also paint ornaments for the kids every year. This year I have 2 families of four children each do I found a pattern for this set of four ornaments. I've done them before to sell at craft shows, but I've never done 60 at a time. Don't think I'll paint them again for a while :)

Handed most of the little bags out yesterday - some kids where missing, hopefully they are on today.
Have an Awesome Tuesday!!

I Will NEVER complain about Snow Again!

I get quite a few emails from another school bus driver. The Chocolate Calculator came from him and so did an email with 43 photo's of Winter in Russia. Don't worry - I won't post them all :)

Obviously these are taken over the span of many years. Can't believe the amount of snow that they had to live with!

Don't you just love the dog?!! Our dog runs to hide if Brad is blowing snow :)

The Chocolate Caluclator!

Got this in an email - don't know how it works - but it does :)

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH
This is pretty neat.
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute ...
Work this out as you read ...
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1760 ..
If you haven't, add 1759..

6... Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!) How Cool is that?

People Need to Get Up Earlier!!

I'm a morning person - most people don't seem to be. I'm up usually around 4am, the house is quiet, no one needs "mom" to find anything for them, or "wifey" to help them with an odd job - its the PERFECT time of the day!! Quiet!

Unfortunately - it felt like no one else was awake in blogland or on Etsy. On Monday I started an "Early Risers Chat" in the Etsy forums to see if anyone else was awake. Guess what! There are other crazy people awake early too :) I find new "friends" to chat with every day. What is your favorite time of the day?
