What a wonderful shop!! I just love piggy banks, and these are hand made! This Little Piggy has the most wonderful assortment of piggy banks, just perfect for the little child in everyone! Jess has been selling them on Etsy since July, but also has another SHOP on the net. Before we get to the wonderful give away prize - here is a big more about Jess.
How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
Well, I wanted a name that would resonate with the folks I thought would like my piggies—something cute, but not too cutesy. Then, it just came to me because of the nursery rhyme—This Little Piggy. How perfect!
When did you start crafting?
I have been crafting for as long as I remember. I’m a Gemini, so I work on a ton of different art, from polymer clay sculpting to acyclic painting. It’s just that the piggies are something I love to make and there are so many different patterns out there to use, I never get bored of creating new designs!
Where do you craft? What would you love to add to your crafting space?
This is a little embarrassing. Much to my husband’s dismay, my coffee table doubles as my crafting table … and it shows! The table looks a bit rough for wear. I live in a tiny bungalow in Arlington, Virginia. Space is pretty limited, so I craft in the living room. But, we are planning an addition to the upstairs attic that will include a small art room for me. I can’t wait!
What or who inspires you?
Oh, wow. So much inspires me. Right now, I am into Japanese art—mostly kawaii (Japanese for cute). So any kawaii paper I find, I scoop right up. An artist who inspires me is a California artist, Lance Morrison. I love his little hummingbirds and his use of white space. His pieces just seem to glow.
Do you have a day job?
Yes, I have two day jobs, actually. (Going back to that Gemini thing!) I run an arts and crafts market in Arlington called, The Ballston Arts & Crafts Market. What I love about this market is that we only allow items that are hand-crafted and represented by the artists themselves. No mass-produced items at all! When I am not managing the art market, I am a professional freelance writer.
What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
I love the Blue Bunny Piggy Bank. He’s made from handmade Japanese paper and was one my first designs. This one always seems to make people smile.
Where are you from?
I am originally from central Jersey, but consider myself a Baltimore girl at heart. I lived there for 12 years and love Charm City! But, currently, I live in Arlington, Virginia and I am having a blast in this busy, little city.
