Featuring - Fantastic Wood

I love wood! Working with wood, painting wood, looking at wood, smelling wood . . . well you get the picture :) Here is a wonderful new shop on Etsy that's all about wood. Please check it out!

*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
We are from small town near Zagreb, Velika Gorica in beautiful country Croatia. I hold this shop with my father, Slavko Pečnik. He is the mastermind behind all UTORMETER designs. He is a member of ULUPUH (Croatian Association of Artists of Applied Arts) and HSI (Croatian Association of Innovators). Together we are working on new ideas. I do photos and publish new items. Also I do all correspondences because my father doesn’t speak English.

*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
My father has been working in printing house and there they use that name for person who arranges lead letters into syllables. They are arranged into grooves (on croatian – UTORI) and this gave him idea to make wooden items using grooves to connect them. And this gave him idea to call this system UTORMETER.
We started this business because we wanted to show this work and see what people think about UTORMETER.

*What or who inspires you?
My father's inspiration and addiction is to invent new sets of laths and new ways to assemble them. You see, they are connected without glues and nails, only by grooves, so it is not so simple to fix them to stand in place. You should see his house: every fence, every chandelier, every photo and picture frame is made by this system. And when you come to his house for the first time, you will have to pass through „initiation“ of trying to assemble and dissasemble at least one of his wooden toys 
In my case, inspiration is my father. He is the reason for running this store in the first place. He is always so full of new and fresh ideas! And he never in his life allowed for his handicape (he is deaf) to stop him in achieving his goals.

What are 5 things you want people to think when they see your product?
  • eco friendly
  • interesting and amusing
  • innovative
  • original
  • practical and decorative

*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
Well, all kinds of wood. It seems like every type of wood has its own qualities. One is strong, one is soft, other one is flexible and you have to adapt to every one of them.

*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
Maybe chairs for kids, because inspiration is his grandson. And those complex items because there is especially good feeling when all laths sit in their place 

*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
