My Green Monkey Designs

I love bags :) Any kind of bag will do. However - a bag made from recycled materials has to be the best!

*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am from Delafield, WI. I have always been described as "artsy" and creative. I worked in executive positions in the business world for many years and gained a strong business sense. A few years ago I wanted an Eco friendly shopping bag that was fun and funky rather than an advertisement for someone else's. My mother taught me to sew when I was a little girl so I figured I could just make bags for myself. So many people wanted them I started my company, My Green Monkey Designs. since that time we have expanded to electronic cases made from recycled clothing.

*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
The name My Green Monkey Designs name has very personal meaning. I call my little grandson my monkey so I knew it had to be named after him. I knew our company would always focus on Eco-friendly "green" initiatives, hence the name My Green Monkey Designs.

*What got you started in recycling?

I have always been very concerned about our environment and nature so this was very natural for me.

*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
I love animal prints. If I find damaged clothing in animal prints I just can't pass it up! the creative options are endless.

*What motivates or inspires you to create?
I love to create and work with my hands and I am just intrinsically motivated to always be making something. When someone purchases an item from me and then sends me a message about how much they love it, it really makes my day.

*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
I enjoy any item that is one of a kind. I love when I combine a unique belt as a strap to a case made out of a shirt, etc. It can never be duplicated and I love that.

*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
Yes. I also make ladies boutique purses that I sell on etsy at www.designsbyambiana.etsy.com

*What is your favorite shop that uses recycled materials, and/or your favorite blog about recycling?
There is a shop on etsy called Madinka. she makes purses from recycled suit coats. I love her work!

  2. Wonderful shop! Only just discovered how fun it can be to go to a thrift store and buy stuff that I know I'll just cut up and turn into something else. I just got two pieces of designer (like Ann Taylor!) clothing and 3 yards of fabric from this cool thrift store the other day for $11!! Now I just need to decide what I want to do with them.
