Sculptures by Alexandra Designs

Oh My Goodness! Have you ever seen anything so cool? These sculptures are amazing - I can't even draw a stick man, don't know how she does it! Take a look and see what you think.

*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m kind of from all over the U.S. but right now I live a block from the ocean in Daytona Beach, Florida. And I absolutely love it!

When I was a kid I was always drawing and painting and entering kids art shows. Then I went to California Institute of the Arts for graphic design. After playing around with different mediums I seem to have evolved to sculpting OOAK (One Of A Kind) miniatures. And that’s what I enjoy the most for the moment.

*How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
I also went to school for web design and called my freelance business Alexandra Design. So I decided to stick with that name for all my artwork.

Actually, it wasn’t my intention to start an OOAK miniatures collection. I had been looking all over the United States for earring trees so I could keep my earrings organized instead of having them loose in my drawer. After several years of not finding one I decided to make my own.

After showing my neighbor, and then my mom, they both wanted me to make one for them. Then they showed it to their friends and the next thing you know I was selling them at a local Farmer’s and Crafter’s Market in New Smyrna Beach. Then I found etsy and the momentum keeps going!

*What or who inspires you?
The One who inspires me is God. I originally started making the little girls resting in God’s hand because it looked so safe. When I was little, the environment I lived in wasn’t safe for me. So, through the years, I produced art that represented how my life was back then.

Now that I’ve moved through my pain and to the other side my work shows how safe I feel now since I’ve become a Christian.

What are 5 things you want people to think when they see your product?
1.Safe
2.Peaceful, relaxed
3.Free spirited
4.Fun
5.Creativity

*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
I don’t have any. Do other artists have something like this? I have a favorite medium of art that I don’t do right now which is watercolor and colored pencil. But I don’t think that’s what you’re asking.

*What do you do when you’re not being an artist?
I skateboard. I’m involved with a Christian skateboard ministry called Skateboarders for Christ in Daytona Beach. After I started working with the kids as a chaperone for a 26 hour lock-in at an indoor skatepark I fell in love with Skateboarding!

*What activities do you enjoy?
Like I said above, skateboarding. I also love spending time outside with my dogs and anything beach related. I’m trying to learn to surf.

*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
If it’s okay I’d like to answer this closer to when it’s going to be published online. I am enjoying a piece I’m working on right now but it’s not finished. And I may find I enjoy another one even better.

*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
Yes, Twitter – alexandra4JC - and Facebook – Alexandra Design. But to get to my fan page, Alexandra Design, you might have to go through my personal site – Alexandra Christensen because there is another Alexandra Design.
