Dishes - How do you wash yours?

When the boys were little we had a dishwasher for a while.  But it was a used one, very used, and didn't last long.  Money was tight, so we didn't replace it.  Once the boys were old enough to help - they would have to dry the dishes while I washed.  This was called "Mother/Son Bonding Time".

When Logan was about 14 he asked if we could get a dishwasher.  I asked what would happen to our Mother/Son bonding?  He thought it would just be faster :)  Funny boy!  Eventually the boys wanted to do the dishes alone, so they could listen to their MP3 player instead of talking to old mom.  Well!

A few years ago Grandma knit me some dish clothes and I love them!  There is nothing like a hand knit/crocheted dish cloth.  In September I hosted a give away for Hillbilly Jill who crochets wonderful dish clothes!! She has a club membership that can be purchased. There is a 6 Month Membership for $15 or a 12 Month Membership for $30 - each with FREE Shipping anywhere.

I bought the 6 month membership, needed some new dish clothes (hinted that I liked the orange one). Got my first one 2 weeks ago, and have used it many times and washed it many times since. This is an amazing dishcloth!! Can't wait to get the next 5 :)

  1. I always use a scrubby. Never thought to try a dishcloth, but those are great!

  2. I have some crocheted ones, some knitted ones, some regular ones and some with the srubbing cloth attached to the back.

I use which ever one is at the top on the stack!

I knitted wash cloths for the bath. I love them. I made so descent size ones and then I made one large one for those days when I just want a huge, hot wash cloth over my face while I soak!

    LOL

    Have a wonderful day!

BTW I need to wash the iron skillets this morning.

  3. That's awesome!
I dislike doing the dishes, so a dishwasher will be one of my priorities in my own house!

  4. Dishwasher for me. But I do like hand knit or crocheted dish cloths. Currently I am using the fake handiwipes, but they tend to sour and can't throw them in the washer.

  7. Dishwasher for me!!! I've never liked using dish cloths. I use a dobi pad or handi wipe when washing things by hand!

  8. I definitely use the dishwasher, but I rinse the dishes really clean before I load them too. It's not my favorite chore, but I hate having dirty dishes in the sink so I try to stay on top of it.

Love the dish cloths! I think the memberships are a neat idea. Enjoy!

  10. Nice dishcloth.
When I was growing up we had a dishwasher. When I moved out on my own I had to wash dishes by hand myself. When my daughter was old enough she became my dishwasher. She once commented that she didn't know why she had to do them and that when she moved out she would be stuck doing them for the rest of her life. I told her "No, you won't, only until you have a kid of your own to do them for you"...lol No kids at home anymore so I'm back to doing them myself. Darn I wish I had a dishwasher.

  11. I have a dishwasher after 10 years w/o one, we moved to our condo and that was one thing I wanted, I do however do some things by hand and I use a scrubbie made with net that a friend crochets, I also like Jacki said use some hand knit/crochet cloths in the bathtub, they are made with bamboo yarn and are soooo soft!

  12. When I had four little ones we had NO dishwasher!!! ( I could have used it then). We redid that kitchen and then moved here ( dishwashers) . You are going to laugh at me but I'm a sponge scrubber girl - why??? Because I can't bear to "mess-up" the pretty crocheted wash clothes I bought with food. Maybe I need an intervention - LOL !
