*Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and consider myself a true Southerner. I grew up in the era where girls learned to sew especially if you wanted to have something new for the Friday dances. As a young girl I dreamed of being a fashion designer. I remember spending hours a day with a girlfriend looking through fabric catalouges. I continued to sew and developed my love for handcrafted items. Once I left Louisiana I moved to Dallas, Texas where I have lived in the heart of Texas for the past twenty five years. After much urging from friends and my family I decided to pursue what they say is "A Talent for Design" and opened Austin Leigh Designs to showcase and sell my handmade jewelry. As my daughters were a big influence in my shop startup I decided to name my shop after them.
I have always loved art and creating pieces of art. My love of art started when I was a young girl. My mother and grandmother taught me to sew and my father inspired through his love of painting and studying the Great Masters. My two daughters also enjoy and share a love for handmade jewelry.
How did you decide on your shop name? Why did you start your business?
The shop is named after my two daughters. It’s a combination of their middle names. I started making jewelry in late 2009 when I couldn't find quality jewelry that was either short enough, long enough or unusual enough.
*What or who inspires you?
My two daughters and other people who just get it done.
What are 5 things you want people to think when they see your product?
That is very unique and beautiful, I want that, I need that , I’m going to buy it.
*What’s your supply addiction; is there a specific color or type of supply you just can’t pass up?
When it comes to gemstones the more unusual stones always catch my eye. I also love turquoise. Recently I saw some white buffalo turquoise. Hoping to buy some soon.
*What do you do when you’re not being an artist? What activities do you enjoy?
I love to entertain and work in my garden. If I am not in my studio you usually will find me outside.
*Which item in your shop did you enjoy making the most and why?
My first piece was a bronze coin necklace which is pictured on the iron bust in my avatar. I saw it somewhere and decided I wanted it and that I could make it myself. Thus, I was addicted.
*Are there other places on the net we can find you?
