Rainbow Metals

Dvora has an amazing metal shop on Etsy. Rainbow Metals has the most wonderful magnets, jewelry, items for children and more. This is a very unique shop!

My name is Dvora Schleffer. I live in a small village in the north of Israel. I have been crafting ever since I can remember myself. I started making jewelry when I was a teenager and never stopped. My "RainbowMetal" store in a new adventure for me that I just started about 2 months ago. I have been making sterling silver and gemstones jewelry for many years under the name "DvoraSchleffer". I wanted to try something different, with more colorful and fun items. I also ventured into non-jewelry items for the first time with small home decor items like magnets, pictures etc. Since my name "DvoraSchleffer" was already taken by my existing store, I came up with "RainbowMetal" which I think reflects the essence of the store - colorful metal.

I have a small studio at home where I do my crafting. I have several working areas in the studio for all my different crafting needs. My work process is made of several stages. First I plan my designs. I make several sketches until I decide on thoise I like. Then I decide on the techniques I am going to use. I actually have several different techniques that I use to make my rainbowmetal items. After that I make the design and see if it works as planned or if it need any changes on the way. I am not addicted to any supplies, I love experimenting and trying new things all the time. I am however addicted to tools! I have a wide selection and I have a list of many more tools I would love to get. So in answer to what would I add to my crafting space I would say - many cool tools and more space so I'll have room to put it all!

My favorite piece is the cute giraffe painting. I had fun venturing into non-jewelry items for the first time. I got to decorate rooms and not just people; I got to work in different sizes and different techniques than those I am used to. The paintings for children's room were especially fun to do, and this giraffe painting is my favorite. It turned out so much nicer and cuter than I had expected.

Amazing Art

Devyn Larson Designs is an amaaing Original Art shop on Etsy. Devyn has the greatest cards for every occasion. After winning some cards on Devyn's blog, I just had to do a feature on her shop and show everyone how wonderful they are! You can see the cards I won on her blog post HERE. Please look around her shop, you will be amazed and some cards will just make you smile :)

When did you start making cards?
I began creating cards in 2005, but have been illustrating since I was big enough to pick up a crayon. Oil painting is my first passion. I am a crazy fan of the Impressionists. However, I learned early that paint and babies don't mix well. Pen and ink became my new creative outlet, post children. They are portable and quick to clean up. (The pens, not the kids.) ") Once I discovered this new love, of all things pen and ink, the doodles started stacking up. My insightful husband thought I should put them to good use. Greeting cards became a great outlet.

Where do you craft? Do you have a picture?
This is me, as is - total creative chaos. I adore my cozy space. It has a ton of windows, lots of light, and assorted coffee stains. (I am a major coffee addict.) It looks out on the garden where I find a lot of inspiration. The space is also a play/craft area for my girls. We love creating together.

What would you love to add to your crafting space?
I would love space to set up a studio for art classes/oil painting, a Wacom Tablet, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, additional storage, and an in-house coffee shop!

What type of art/cards do you enjoy making the most?
I love to do custom work and any type of illustration. Bible verses, Snowmen, and Birthday cakes have been big themes that I have been inspired to draw lately.

Do you have a day job?
I am a Mom, Wife, and Teacher of Computers and Technology, part-time, at a local elementary school. I LOVE what I do and am blessed to work with amazingly talented people and fantastic kids.

Do you have a blog?
My blog is www.devynlarson.blogspot.com
Stop in and visit anytime! I love to post all the latest doodles. There are also some sneak peeks of my 2010 Calendar.

Jennifer Labella Art

Jennifer Labella Art is an amazing shop on Etsy. Jennifer is from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, only 1.5 hours north of me!! She has the most wonderful book that she has had published and actually won an award in NY!!

" I am very pleased to announce that my book, A Polar Bear Night of Stars and Light, has won a silver medal in the category: Children's Picture Book (all ages), in the 2009 Independent Publisher Book (IPPY) Awards. There were over 4,000 books entered in this competition, and my book's category had one of the largest number of entries! The awards were presented on May 29, 2009 in New York City during Book Expo America. "

She has made prints and cards from some of the illustrations in the book, and is selling them in her shop. May have to get this book for my nephew for his b-day in Oct. He loves to read and this book looks amazing!!

1. How did you decide on your shop name?
I wanted to use my name because as an artist, that is how people know me.

2. When did you start crafting?
I have been painting and drawing all my life- as long as I can remember.

3. Are there other crafts you would like to try?
At the moment, working on getting better at watercolor techniques keeps me pretty busy!

4. What or who inspires you?
All other artists inspire me, including crafters and I marvel at all their unique abilities.

5. Do you have a day job?
Being an artist is my day job, as well as landscape designing which is more seasonal work.

6. What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
My children's picture book, A Polar Bear Night of Stars and Light. Writing the story, doing the illustrations and putting it all together took me close to a year. And the icing on the cake is finding out yesterday that it won a silver medal in a big international book awards competition (The IPPY Awards)in the children's picture book, all ages category.

Kenning Stone

Kenning Stone is from a small rural town in Sth Est Manitoba. She is single and lives with her 2 cats and a parrot (yellow fronted Amazon). Since she has started working with altered art she's been trying to squeeze it into every available moment and that is still not enough for her. She likes to describe her style as Bohemian Medievalish.

1. How did you decide on your shop name?
I wanted a positive name, something I can aspire to, something to help me create from the heart. To 'ken' means to know wholly and completely that something is right, true. A stone to me represents ancient ancient wisdom, stable, comforting, enduring. Therefore, Kenning Stone.

2. When did you start crafting?
I've been dabbling with art/crafting most of my life. I have a B.F.A. Honours 1st class from the U of Manitoba. But, it's only been just over a year that my friend introduced me to altered art, Happy Day!

3. What or Who inspires you?
What inspires me: Celtic Art, Medieval art, Earth Energy. Who inspires me: The friend that introduced me to Altered Art. (see http://www.imagesbykim.blogspot.com/). She showed me an altered book and I fell in love with the art form, then she gave me a tour of her workshop - it boggled my mind, so she helped me set up and helped me find supplies and I was hooked. She has a site, Paper Digital Art & Images by Kim. I go there every day and get inspired.

4. Do you have a day job?
I have one full-time day job and 2 eveng/wknd jobs.

5. What is the item in your shop you enjoyed making the most and why?
Well, I really enjoyed making Kenning Stone in the Woods. I love the atmosphere of it, It really felt like it encompassed everything about how I want to approach my altered art. I liked it so much I used it for my Kenning Stone blog banner.
She does have a blog, and this is her description of it:
I do have a blog at http://www.kenningstone.blogspot.com/. I am currently telling stories on my blog. I have discovered that I enjoy writing very much. The stories are a little rough cause 1 full-time job and 2 part-time jobs don't give you much time to refine a story. So I end up just winging it every week. If I waited until I got everything perfect, then no story would ever get onto the blog.

Audrey's Accolades:
Amazing!! Still not sure I understand the whole process of how Altered Art/Mixed Media works but it sure is pretty. Kenning Stone has such an amazing imagination. She puts together the coolest items to make a wonderful piece of art. The following piece is my favorite - Just love the colors!!

Art Card (4"x4")
*featured warm red, gold and brown colours
*metal embellishments
*waxed string for hanging
*the card is sturdy and well made
*the back is finished, signed and dated
