Random Tuesday

~ My garden! Well, when everything started coming up it looked awesome!! I had beautiful rows of cucumbers, onions, pumpkins/squash, tomatoes and corn. The neighbor decided to spray his field for broadleaf weeds and ended up killing my cucumbers, really hurting the tomatoes (didn't think they would survive), 1/2 my pumpkins and squash plants were gone and the corn was really hurt.

A few of the cucumber plants survived but not many. I make my own relish and dill pickles, so I need quite a few cucumbers. Last year I didn't get any plants, so this year I really need quite a bit. We went to the green house, picked up some plants, and reseeded a row too. So now I have about 5 different stages of growth in my cucumber rows. Everything from vineing and blooming to just poking out of the ground. Should be interesting. At least they won't all be ready at the same time! LOL

The corn survived beautifully!! 3 nice rows. Should have lots of Corn-on-the-cob this fall!!

There are still a few pumpkin plants and a few butternut squash plants, guess we'll see how many "fruit" we get.

Bought some more onions too. Had one row - which seems to have survived after being sprayed. So now I have 3 shorter rows.

So we bought 12 more tomato plants, and out of the 12 that got sprayed - only one died. Oh dear, we will have a lot of tomatoes.

Updates

Don't have anything specific to post about today. So I thought I'd update on some other posts that I've done.

GARDENING:
This is a pick of what my garden looks like today. I have my seeds - the asparagus roots are apparently coming closer to planting time. Will try and take pics of the garden as the summer progresses and post them.

The snow needs to melt, though it's been quite warm the last few days. (+6C tues.) Today's high is supposed to be -4C. It's still freezing at night - which is a good thing - don't want the snow to melt too fast and have flooding. Manitoba gets a lot of water from North Dakota and they have a lot of snow!! We have a creek that runs past the west side of our yard. This is what it looks like today.

The water should be on the lower part of the yard in a day or two. In 1997 we had to sand bag the house to keep the basement from flooding, hopefully that won't happen this year.

BOOKS
A few people suggested reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, when I did my post on books. So I went to the local library. The happened to have it in - so I read it. The book was actually quite good and now I'm waiting for book 2, "Two for the Dough" , book three came in tues., "Three to get Deadly". If they are as good as book one - I'll probably read the whole series in the next few months.

I'm almost done "Into the Fire" by Suzanne Brockmann. This is part of her "Trouble Shooter" series. I've read all the others and found out there are 2 more coming out this year!! WOOHOO! Can't wait!

BIRTHDAY
My birthday is in April. There will be two give aways on my other blog - but I'm thinking of doing something on this blog too. Something just for my followers. What would you like to see? Something I've made or a gift certificate for my shop? Any ideas? All ideas are welcome!

It's Almost Spring!!

My gardening seeds came in the mail yesterday!! I can hardly wait to get out there. Planning the garden, where things will go, and how far apart to make the rows.

However - there is still a foot of snow on my garden - and we have a blizzard warning for today and a wind chill warning!! This is what the weather looks like for us for the next few days.

I copied and pasted this at 6:40 am, so the -22C (-7.6F) is for that time of the morning. Do you see why I am waiting for spring? These temps are in Celcius. This weather is insane!! HELP!!

Spring is only 10 days away!!! Can you tell? I can't.

It was pointed out to me in a comment - I didn't mention what I was planting!!  Here goes:
bi-color corn, carrots, cucumbers, pumpkins (small pie type), winter squash, tomatoes, onions, trying asparagus for the first time, and a variety of peppers.
